The Buddha’s last words before he died were “Strive on, untiringly”. He emphasized effort, striving, determination and persistence throughout his 45 years of teaching. Our next topic for discussion is the application of and relationship toward effort in our practice and lives. Is there a role for personal effort or will? If so, what role would it play? What is wise effort; what is sometimes called effortless effort? One thing that I have discovered in my practice is that how we apply effort and our attitude towards effort are very central to our practice.
